Random Recommendation: TOMS Shoes

[not kdrama related...
...but totally worth dishing]

Shoes for the Soul
Do any of these avowals apply to you?

I like children.
I hate poverty.
I like doing good deeds while looking fashionable.
I often wear shoes.

What I’m trying to ask is, are you the kind of person who walks down the street wearing fashionably chic shoes while feeling the burdensome weight of your good conscience, most particularly the concern over the heartbreaking cycle of hardship many children face in all corners of our world? If you are, boy have I got the shoes news for you! There’s something you can do that satisfies both these seemingly polar interests, a collaboration of fashion and positive humanitarian mojo!

Heheh. All joshing aside, check out TOMS Shoes!
(If you already have a pair, why not another?)

This philanthropic company has found a way to be charitable to a great cause yet financially sustainable. There’s that popular saying, you know the one, something about putting ourselves in other people’s shoes? Well, this company wants to put other people in our shoes, tooas in, give children the opportunity for a healthy future and a good education, something a lot of us often take for granted. Another thing we take for granted besides life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? That’s right, access to footwear.

Children are our future (think about it, some lil one out there may one day find the cure for cancer or figure out teleportation, see, things that benefit everybody), whether in our own country, or Argentina, or wherever else on this increasingly cozy planet, they all deserve the chance to step into their destinies with their soles protected. In that vein, TOMS pledges a “One For One” movement: they will donate a pair of shoes for every pair you purchase.

According to their website:

TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about. The TOMS mission transforms our customers into benefactors, which allows us to grow a truly sustainable business rather than depending on fundraising for support.

Why shoes?

Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:

•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.

•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they are also dangerous when wounds become infected.

•Often, children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.

And as if making a difference wasn’t awesome enough in itself, these shoes are both comfy and totally Argentine-style fabulous! Hurry and get yourself a pair! I’m serious, look at these hotties:

More fangirling over JiSub and HyoJin after the jump, and Master’s Sun (Episode 5 and 6) will be the only drama I yap about and spoil. It was the only one I managed to watch this week.
